First Cake Sale Success

So its the last week of term, and time for a Christmas cake sale! Enlisted a team of bakers for a mass baking session at my house (thank you to you all) and as you can see we were successful! Over 100 cakes and 100 brownies made in one evening, boxed up and ready to sell.

Transporting all of the cakes to school in the mini was an interesting challenge, but all the cakes made it in undamaged. In the about ten minutes we took over £50, which was really exciting, and the total raised came to over £120 (minus ingredients), so overall a very successful day!

Just want to say a MASSIVE THANK YOU to my mom. Today wouldn't have been a success without you...cutting up brownies, decorating cakes, and helping with the selling...was all so helpful. xox

FRIDAY 24TH FEBRUARY

If you enjoy music, keep this date free!

I am organising a charity soiree at Chichester High School for Girls, on Friday 24th of February. It will be an informal evening of music making, and the program is already looking pretty exciting! Drop me an email at katie.beth.james@googlemail.com if you want to get involved or fancy coming to watch. Will give you an update when I get full confirmation of the acts!

massive thank you to my team of leaflet folders [:

Over the last couple of weeks I have been researching Charitable Trusts to write to, asking for their support. Today I managed to send off the letters to the carefully selected group of trusts with a lot of help of some supportive friends who don't seem to be sick of folding leaflets yet!
This post is to say a big thank you to all of them.
Support from friends really means a lot to me. I cannot reach my target alone, so keep the help and advice coming!

I'd also like to take this chance to say thank you to Luke Megeney and Adam Barker for their enthusiasm towards my musical soiree. Chichester High School for Girls has agreed to let me use the main hall as a venue (another thank you!) so hopefully I should have a date soon.

Final few thank you's:
- Andrew Martin, for going busking with me last Saturday - my first time, which was an interesting experience!
- Sam Game and Lewis Donnovan for their donations
- Amy Brown for helping me with my research into trusts

- Vicky Lam for envelope shopping with me
- Jo Wilson and all the other leaflet folders in my form

Appreciate all of your support so much!

Special Delivery

Today I received an exciting delivery of 500 leaflets from Castle Printers, which they generously printed for me, to help me with my fundraising. The leaflets explain a little bit about what I am doing, and if you would like a copy please just ask! My next step is to send some of these leaflets along with a letter to trusts which I have researched, in the hope of receiving some support. I will also be distributing them to friends and family in Christmas cards, at fundraising events and whenever I bump into people, so no doubt you will see them around!

Thank you once again to Castle Printers for their generous donation. Please help to support this local business!

Selection Course!

In October, I travelled up to Coll (over 12 hours on the train!) to take part in a Selection Course with Project Trust. I stayed with a host family on the island, which was fun but also challenging...sharing a bathroom with four boys aged one to seven for example! Throughout the week we had to do a series of different tasks, including teaching, digging lazy beds, community work, and probably hardest of all a ten minute speech about an aspect of the island. With no internet, I had to find other ways of collecting information, primarily by talking to the local people. At the beginning of the week this seemed like a daunting task, but I soon realised that it had taught me a lot of skills which would be useful if I gained a placement abroad, and I am so glad that I pulled it off.

Less than a week later I received the news I had been anxiously awaiting all week...I have been selected to volunteer overseas in India!

After an initial outburst of excitement and phoning my family and friends, I realised that this is where the hard work begins: fundraising, training and preparing for my year. I will be updating this blog with my latest fundraising events, and letting you know how close to my goal of £5100 I am, so please keep reading!
